Windows maximized over or under Windows taskbar

Sometimes, possibly after docking my laptop or unlocking it, when I maximize a window, it is enlarged a bit more that it should and it either goes over or under the taskbar. If it's over it's annoying because taskbar is hidden. If it's under it's annoying because part of the window is missing.
I guess you are aware of this problem already. Is there a fix for it?

(Windows 10, latest DisplayFusion)

Does that only happen on the monitor with the DisplayFusion taskbar, or also on the Primary monitor with the Windows taskbar?

I'm only using Windows taskbars.

Ok, in that case, DisplayFusion shouldn't be causing any issues there. When this happens, if you just restore (un-maximize) the window, then maximize it, does it go back to the correct size?

No it doesn't. My screen is split using profiles. Window is maximized correctly if I maximize with shift pressed.

Ah, gotcha! Could you attach a copy of your troubleshooting info so that I can check out your split configuration?
  • Open the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Click the "Copy to Clipboard" button
  • Paste the text into a text file (please don't paste the text directly into your reply, the formatting gets garbled and makes it difficult to parse)
  • Reply with the file attached

Thanks! In the DisplayFusion Monitor Configuration window, if you disable the "Taskbar" checkbox, does that help at all?

I have the same problem (Windows taskbars, split screen), troubleshooting info is attached. The checkbox was already unchecked. However the windows are usually under the taskbar, can't remember that it was ever above.

So I made some tests these days. I realized that the state of this checkbox doesn't make the difference. But whenever I open the monitor configuration window and hit OK, without making any change, the problem goes away.... until the next time.

@papadi: Interesting! Does the same thing happen for you, nan0?

Indeed, it does. I also just noticed that the error occured after booting from Hibernation, I'll observe if it's reproducible

Seems to be at least connected to Hibernation for me. Maximized under the taskbar after resuming, and after opening and closing Monitor configuration it worked again.

In my case it happens with simple locking of the screen for a few minutes.

@papadi: Do your monitors sleep after being at the lock screen for a few minutes?

Yes, actually they do. In a couple of minutes even though my power settings are different.

If you disable the monitor sleep, can you still reproduce this after the being at the lock screen for a while?

@nan0: I haven't been able to reproduce this here. If you disable any sleep/hibernate options on your computer, do you still run into this issue after the computer has been locked/unlocked?

Seems to be fixed in 9.0 Beta 2 (didn't try Beta 1), haven't been able to recreate it yet.

I do not confirm this. I still have this problem. I'm using 9.0 Beta 3.

It seems that it doesn't happen as often as before, so I needed some time to reproduce. Here it the info you requested.

Thanks! I wonder if it's an issue where DisplayFusion is checking the work area to setup the splits before the Windows taskbar is done loading after sleep. I'm going to check in with our devs and see if they can offer any insight.

Hey guys! Two follow-up questions from our devs:
  • Is it simply opening the Monitor Configuration window that fixes it, or do you have to open it and close it before it's fixed?
  • Does opening any of the other DisplayFusion Settings windows (Settings or Wallpaper) also fix it?

Didn't notice before, but just opening and closing the monitor config window fixes the problem. No need to hit ok or apply. Not sure about other windows. Doesn't happen so often anymore but it does happen. Sometimes actually the window is just a little be bigger than it should, so a part of the window which is smaller than the taskbar is hidden behind it.

sorry, disregard that... I will need to test it again. not sure.

Ok, so simply opening Monitor Config window doesn't solve the problem. But closing it, even by hitting the X button on the top/right corner, fixes it.
Not sure about other windows yet.

Ok, awesome, thanks for clarifying that! We have a pretty good idea on how to fix this now. I will be sure to post an update when we have a new build with this all fixed up.

Thanks!

We're a bit late with the follow-ups, but this should be fixed up in 9.1. If you are still having trouble, definitely let us know.

Thanks!

This bug just hit me. I have a single screen setup with different window arrangement configurations. Im running 9.2.4 on Windows 7 x64. See attached the debug info. I switched logging on, hoping that something helpful will be collected when I experience the bug the next time. I'll keep you updated.

My workaround is to drag the taskbar to the right border and back to the bottom again. Afterwards, windows maximizing works correct again.

@Janosch: Are you able to reproduce the issue reliably? If so, what steps seem to make it occur on your system?
