I'm noticing that in 8.1.2 that the TitleBar buttons (re functions) seem to disappear each time I create and/or switch to a different desktop wallpaper profile. I have to go into the Settings windows and turn off, and then turn back on the TitleBar buttons. See screenshot.

Update - I may have traced this problem to Microsoft Access 2013. Each time I run Access, and my wallpaper changes, then the TitleBar buttons disappear.

I am using Windows 7 professional and the full version of DF 8.1.2. I have not yet checked this behaviour in Windows 10.

That's strange! Do you have any rules setup on the DisplayFusion Settings > Compatibility tab for Access 2013?

Hi Keith.

Sorry for taking so long to respond.

I do not have any rules set up for Access under Compatibility in DisplayFusion Settings. I do use the feature to control settings for Photoshop 7 (rarely use anymore), ESRI ArcGIS ArcMap (use frequently), and SQL Server Management Studio (SQL 2008) import/export wizard.

Could you attach a debug log? Here are the steps:
  • On the DisplayFusion Settings > Troubleshooting tab, change the Logging drop-down to "L1: Log Minimal" and click Apply
  • Reproduce the issue and note the time so we'll know where to check in the log file
  • Send us the DisplayFusion.log and DebugInfo.html files (can be found by clicking the Open Log button on the Troubleshooting tab)
  • Disable debug logging after sending the log

Thanks!

Hi Keith.

Just read your message today and will try to log the problem using the instructions you provided. Before reading your message, the problem occurred again. Below is a screenshot. It seems like there's no pattern to the disappearance of the titlebar buttons. I'll have to follow your advice and use the log to capture the problem.

Hi Keith.

Just a quick update. The title bar buttons seem to disappear whenever I create a new desktop wallpaper profile. While I was creating a new profile, I did have Microsoft Access running. Once I applied a new profile, the title bar buttons disappeared from all application and folder windows. Choosing a different existing profile does not (so far) make the title bar buttons disappear, even while I am running Microsoft Access, Excel, ArcGIS, etc.

I have logging turned on again and selected the option to download beta versions.

We should have a new Beta version coming out next week, I would be interested to see if it still has the same issues. Can you wait and test it, then report back? Thanks!

Hi Jon, Keith,

I just installed the new 9.0 beta 1 version and used the logging feature in Settings to log a number of actions, such as opening applications, changing existing wallpaper, and then creating a new wallpaper profile.

Attached are several screenshots.

The disappearing titlebar problem persists with 9.0 beta 1. The problem so far only occurs when creating a new wallpaper profile. It does not occur when changing to another existing wallpaper profile. I will send you by e-mail a copy of the log file I created to capture the action of creating a new wallpaper profile and then having to turn off and turn back on the titlebar button feature. Screenshots to go with that.

First attachment shows the missing titlebars after creating a new profile.
Second attachment shows the titlebar settings and the missing titlbars.

Sincerely, Rupertsland
From sunny Manitoba! :-)

A couple more attachments...

First attachment shows 2 folder windows. Background window was open prior to creating a new wallpaper profile. Window in foreground was opened after creating a new wallpaper profile.

Second attachment shows running applications during all this activity.

Sincerely, Rupertsland

Hello.

After some more tests, the problem with disappearing titlebar buttons persists with DisplayFusion 9.0 beta 3. See screenshots.

I created a new wallpaper profile. The only applications I had running were Internet Explorer, Outlook 2010, and ArcGIS 10.5. After I created the new profile, the titlebar buttons vanished.

Ok, thanks for testing that out! We're pretty stumped on this. Could you send a new debug log, this time with L2 logging? Here are the steps again:
  • On the DisplayFusion Settings > Troubleshooting tab, change the Logging drop-down to "L2: Log Detailed" and click Apply
  • Reproduce the issue and note the time so we'll know where to check in the log file
  • Send us the DisplayFusion.log and DebugInfo.html files (can be found by clicking the Open Log button on the Troubleshooting tab)
  • Disable debug logging after sending the log

Hi Keith.

I just downloaded and installed DisplayFusion Pro 9.0 (Beta 4) that you released this morning.

The title bar problem still exists in this release. This time I created a detailed log file for you (I will email it right after this). Please see screenshot attached to this posting.

What I am noticing now with this beta is that the titlebar buttons disappear from any new folder and application windows I open immediately after I create a new wallpaper profile (pressing the new profile button). So, I create a new profile. Then, I opened new windows, such as the DispalyFusion Settings window, and sure enough, no title bar buttons!

I was not running Excel or Access this time around.

Yep, that's it! I was able to reproduce it here now as well. We'll follow-up when it's fixed for sure :)
