Any taskbar shortcuts I have pointing to either files or folders are now failing, instead all opening "My Documents" regardless of what they're set to.

They all worked fine before the 9.4 Update.

I tried going into settings and re-saving them, but that doesn't work.

Also, mouse wheel scrolling when hovering over a non-active window seems to have stopped working, too.

The taskbar shortcuts seem to be working ok for me here. Could you attach a backup of your settings? (Settings > Options > Export)

I'll test out the mouse wheel scrolling on Windows 7 as well and see what I can find out.

Thanks!

The inactive scrolling seems to be working for me as well. Does it not work with any applications for you? Or only when specific applications have focus?

Here you go.

Note the only shortcuts I have all point to network locations, if that helps in the diagnosis? They're all available to Windows.

Also, if I edit them to be incorrect, Display Fusion says "Failed to launch this application, the path does not exist" with the correct (incorrect) path, instead of opening "My Documents"...if that makes sense?

EDIT: The one non-networked location I have - "My Computer", does still work.

It doesn't seem to be working at all. Nothing scrolls when I scroll over a non-focused window (testing with Chrome and IE 11). The exception seems to be Outlook, if that's in focus it scrolls nomatter what the pointer is over.

Super weird! I still can't reproduce it here. Could you try a full reboot, then send me a debug log?

  • On the DisplayFusion Settings > Troubleshooting tab, change the Logging drop-down to "L1: Log Minimal" and click Apply
  • Reproduce the shortcuts issue and note the time so we'll know where to check in the log file
  • Click the "Export Info to File" button on the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Reply with the file attached
  • Disable debug logging after sending the log

Can you also re-test the inactive scrolling after rebooting? It may not work if Chrome is the window that has focus, because DF doesn't hook Chrome any more.

OK, after a reboot here's the log file.

Everything attempted at 0918: -

Taskbar Shortcut - "My Computer" - Works
Taskbar Shortcut - "Invoices" Folder (network location) - Fails, opens "My Documents" instead
Taskbar Shortcut - "Hosting" File (network location) - Fails, nothing happens, no error message
Taskbar Shortcut - "S" Folder (network location) - Fails, opens "My Documents" instead
Taskbar Shortcut - "Chrome" Application - Works

I retried the inactive scrolling (with mouse wheel) and it definitely isn't working. I tried with an IE11 window and an Explorer window and the results are: -

Explorer focused - scrolls nomatter where the mouse is
IE 11 focused - only scrolls when hovered over it, when hovered over anything else nothing scrolls

Thanks! If you go into Windows Explorer and click on the G: drive, then close the window and try the DF taskbar shortcut again, does it still fail?

Forget my last message, I can reproduce the issues with the folders now. Can you try taking the trailing backslash off of the folder path, so it's just like this?

That works for those 2, thanks.

There's still the shortcut to the file on a networked drive (g:\Invoices\hosting_etc.xlsx) which doesn't work at all, though?

I'm kind of stumped on that one! I created a shortcut to a file on a network drive here and it opens without issues.

If you copy that file locally and create a shortcut to it, does it work?

No, that doesn't work either. I also created a new file shortcut for a "test.txt" file on my desktop, and the same thing - nothing happens at all.

If you open a Run prompt (Win + R) and put the path to the file in there and click OK, does it open?

Ok, I'll need to check in with our devs to see what other info might be helpful in tracking this down. In the meantime, if you want to roll back to 9.3, you can download it here: https://www.binaryfortress.com/Files/DisplayFusion/DisplayFusionSetup-9.3c.exe. You can install it directly over top of 9.4.

Thanks!

We're fairly certain we've found the cause of this issue, and we'll have it fixed for the next beta, hopefully out next week :)

Thanks!

That's great. It's no big deal, I haven't bothered rolling back...and it's Xmas next week :)

Oh yeah, no worries, we just have a few fixes we need to drop in and then we can post a beta with the fix :)

Hi,

FYI, I'm not sure if it's supposed to be fixed but the file shortcut still doesn't work on DF Pro 9.4.2 (after a reboot).

We have just released DisplayFusion 9.4.3 and the new version should take care of this issue for you. Can you give it a try and let me know how it works for you? Thanks!

Working now. It takes a while...but it works! :)

When you say it takes a while do you mean the shortcut takes a long time to open compared to the older version? Thanks!

It definitely seems to. I can't compare vs older versions, but if I paste the file location into a "run" prompt, or use a normal shortcut (from Desktop) it takes just under 3 seconds to load. Through DF, it now takes just under 13.

I think older versions of DF were somewhere between the two.

I'll re-test this here on Wednesday and see what I can find out.

Thanks!

Ok, I can definitely see a bit of a difference here too, not as drastic as yours, but still noticeable. We're going to make another change for the next beta that should fix this up.

Thanks!
