Hi guys,

I just upgraded to Windows 10 and DisplayFusion to newest version (7.2). Unfortunately now whenever I click on the start button the menu always opens on my primary monitor.

Is there a setting I'm missing to make the menu open on the screen the button was clicked on?

Thanks!
Bill

You're definitely not missing any settings, it should just work. Are you using a third-party Start menu like Start10, or just the normal Windows 10 Start menu?

Ok, would you be able to attach a copy of your troubleshooting info? Here are the steps:
  • Open the DisplayFusion Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Click the Copy to Clipboard button
  • Open Notepad, paste the text, and save the file
  • Reply with the text file attached

I have noticed some glitchyness when clicking the start buttons. Sometimes I'll see the menu start to popup on the correct monitor and then it will close really quick and end up opening on my primary monitor. Also the same is true when I click the start button on the primary monitor .. it'll sometimes flicker a start menu on one of my other monitors and then close and re-open where it should. super weird

Update - I just uninstalled and re-installed display fusion, and now the "glitch" is more pronounced. When I click the start button on one of my secondary monitors the menu will open on the primary monitory and then after about 1 second jump to where it should be.

I'm experiensing the same and a similiar problem. When using the Start Menu on monitor 2 and 3, the Start Menu starts flickering between Monitor 1 and the monitor on which the Start Menu was activated. When flickering, the size of the Start Menu changes between two different sizes. Sometimes the flickering stops when the Start Menu on the third monitor is activated. After that I get the same problem of a flash opening of the Start Menu on monitor 1, when using the Start Menu on one of the secondary monitors.

I've attached a log-file.

I'm having the same issue. It happened when I didn't have any 3rd party taskbar app installed and it now happens with Start10. Was working great before the upgrade.

I'd like to chime in that I've having the same issue, but for me, since I have 1 monitor with splits, wherever I'm focused on is where the start menu opens to. I have about 2/3 of the right side of my screen as one "monitor" and if I'm focused on a window in that one, opening the start menu will move it to the bottom left corner of it, which is basically the middle of the screen.

Edit: It actually seems to be following my mouse, whatever monitor my mouse is in is where the start menu will move to...very strange behavior. Perhaps there's a setting enabled that I'm not aware of?

Double Edit: Yup. Unchecking "Taskbars" at the bottom of Monitor Configuration under "Use these features with Split Monitors" seems to have solved my issue for now, fingers crossed!

Same problem here. Desktop PC, upgrade from Win 7 pro to Windows 10, Display Fusion 7.2. I am using three monitors. The task bar and start button appears on all three but when I click on the start button on monitors 2 and 3 it only opens up the menu on the primary monitor (monitor 1). Please help.

Thanks!

I am experiencing the same bug. If I click the start menu on my secondary monitor, it pops up in my primary one, then jumps to my secondary one. Sometimes when I click it, it goes bat-shit crazy and opens and closes randomly switching between monitors on a single click.

I am just using the stock windows 10 menu.

Is anyone even responding to threads here? Is DisplayFusion even needed with Windows 10 any longer? I see there are some features in Windows 10 that sound like they do similar things.

Hey all, sorry for the really long delay. We have a massive backlog of support cases due to the Windows 10 release :(

This issue is on our list, and we'll be sure to post an update as soon as we've gotten it all sorted out.

Thanks!

Good luck on the fix! This one's quite important.

We've just released a new DisplayFusion beta version (http://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta/) and most of the Start menu issues should be fixed up now. For setups where font/DPI scaling is not used, the Start menu will open directly on whatever monitor you clicked the Start button on. For setups where the non-Primary monitors have different DPI scaling settings, the Start menu will open on the Primary monitor, then move to the monitor you clicked the Start button on.

Please let us know if you run into any trouble after updating.

Thanks!

I'm sorry for waking an old thread, but I'm experiencing this now - only reversed!

The Start meny only opens on the second screen no matter where the focus is.

Windows 10 64 bit, up to date. No errors in system logs.

AMD Catalyst 15.11.1 installed (did a driver clean and rolled back to this from the latest Crimson Beta)

The only desktop/start menu program installed is Stardock's Fences, and nothing has changed there.

Two monitors:
- Primary: 2560x1080 32bit@60Hz
- Secondary: 1920x1200 32 Bit @60Hz.

Log and screenshot attached.

Edit: Just noticed that if I start to type to run a command, the start menu jumps to the primary screen.

Edit 2: It started working again, forget about this - I give up on my weird computer!

I just ordered a new CPU, motherboard and new RAM. If I still have problems once I'm on that, I'll make a new post.

  • Open the Settings > Troubleshooting tab

  • Paste the text into a text file (please don't paste the text directly into your reply, the formatting gets garbled and makes it difficult to parse)

@Nuutia: When you start typing, does the search box end up on the Primary monitor?

Ah gotcha, yeah, there's currently an issue where the search box moves back to the primary (because Windows won't let us move it :( ). If we can find a way to make it work in a future version, we definitely will include a fix for it.

In the meantime, on workaround would be to install Classic Shell. It's free, and works more like the Windows 7 start menu, with the search built-in.

Thank you so much Keith... this happens a few different ways. I have a Microsoft Sculpt Mouse with a dedicated blue "Windows" button on the side. When pressed it opens the Start Menu. This has always worked up until this current DF update. But I get the same behavior if I click on the Windows Start icon in the lower left of either monitor (regardless of which monitor I am actively on) and the menu only pops up on the Primary monitor. Same goes of I click on the Windows button on the keyboard, just defaults to the primary monitor. Go figure...

If you enable the "Taskbar: Invoke Start Menu Using Click Instead of Windows Key" option in the DisplayFusion Settings > Advanced Settings window, then restart DisplayFusion, does that make any difference at all?

Ok, could you attach a full debug log?
  • On the DisplayFusion Settings > Troubleshooting tab, change the Logging drop-down to "L1: Log Minimal" and click Apply
  • Reproduce the issue and note the time so we'll know where to check in the log file
  • Send us the DisplayFusion.log and DebugInfo.html files (can be found by clicking the Open Log button on the Troubleshooting tab)
  • Disable debug logging after sending the log

Unfortunately this appears to be happening again.

Win 10 v1703, no special Start Menu code, Start Menu in Tiles only mode.

Occasionally the Start Menu starts opening on the primary monitor only, and I think it takes a logoff to temporarily fix it.

I have two monitors, DF Taskbar on second monitor, click second monitor taskbar Start button, opens on primary monitor.

Enabling show app list in Start Menu seems to fix it so it must just be with Tiles only mode. Nope - spoke too soon. Opening and closing it on the primary monitor fixes it temporarily. Tile or App+Tile mode doesn't matter.

Click secondary Start button - Start Menu open on primary monitor.
Continuing to click secondary Start button closes and opens Start Menu on primary monitor.

I can confirm this behavior.
I have a three monitor setup, and when clicking start button on one of the non primary ones, it opens. After closing I need to open it on one of the other screens before I am able to use the previous screen again.

Means: Open it on 3, close on 3, next click will open on primary always. The open on 2, close on 2, any further click on 2 will open on primary, but 3 will work again. Same vice versa.

If I use the Windows-Key (instead of clicking), I will always open on the primary, no way to get this to open on 2 or 3. But it also resets above behavior, means once I open it (on the primary) via the key, it will jump back to 3 or 2 on the next click on any of those.

Tested both 9.1 and the latest beta.

attached please find the log.
Note three things:
- I am on 9.2 b3 in the meanwhile, and the clicking issue seems to be fixed, means when using mouse clicks the start menu opens on the correct screen, but using the windows key on the keyboard issue still remains, it always opens on the main monitor
- Order of my screens from left to right is: 2-3-1, while 2 is the main monitor
- I activated the log, then actively put focus on the right screen (1), then pressed the windows key shortly after the clock turned 12:00, start menu opens on the main screen (2) instead

@NetMage: Glad to hear it. That behaviour is expected, we try to launch it directly in place, but if that fails, then it falls back to opening on the Primary and moving to the correct monitor.

I am afraid it did not. But seems you touched the right spot :) since at least behavior changed.
Previously it just did open on the primary monitor all the time.
Now with 9.3b1 it still does that, but it does it twice within 1-2 seconds. Means I see it flashing open on the primary monitor, then it closes, and then it opens once more (again on the primary monitor) and stays open.

behavior slightly changed with today's 9.3b2 update:
the double flicker is gone. Start menu still opens only on primary, with one interesting exception: When putting the application focus either on the desktop of non primary monitor #1 (by clicking it first) or on a UWP app that resides on that same monitor it opens on that one instead (means I see it open on the primary, then it closes and reopens at #1). All other cases fall back to the primary monitor.

Btw, in case this makes a difference... my setup looks like this:
|----------| |----------|
| | | |
| 2 prim. | | 3 | |---------|
|----------| |----------| | 1 |

Not sure if this is related.

On Win8.1 I solved this actually through Windows options not in DisplayFusion 9.2 which I use.
Right click on Desktop - > Personalize -> Taskbar and Navigation -> Navigation -> Show Start on display I'm using when I press the Windows logo key.
