Hello. I have 3 monitors (1200p, 1080p, and a brand-new 4k television). Unfortunately, I am unable to get my 4k to run at 60 Hz. It's locked at 4k @ 30 Hz. That's an ongoing issue that might be related to the HDMI cable or the DisplayPort adapter I'm using. Not sure, but I'm working on it.

Regardless, my 4k TV can also run at 1080p @ 60 Hz. By default, it starts at 30 Hz, but I can go into Display Settings | Display adapter properties | Monitor tab | Set screen refresh rate to 60 Hertz. Works perfectly.

However, if I try to save this setting as a Monitor Profile in DisplayFusion, the monitor reverts back to a 30 Hz refresh rate. The 59 and 60 Hz rates remain visible as options. If I try to slide it to one of them and Apply, it goes back to 30 Hz. Under Load Profile, it looks like the profile is saved as 30 Hz. My other monitors remain unaffected and stay at 60 Hz.

The only way to fix this is to go back to Advanced Display Settings each time. Very annoying!

VortexDweller posted a similar issue here: https://www.displayfusion.com/Discussions/View/switching-display-refresh-rate-with-profiles/?ID=2cd9747c-ba49-476c-84c0-a5b051b670ea#10

Using "Classic Get/Set Functions" broke a lot of other functions that I relied on, so it's not a very viable fix. Is there anything else that can be done?

EDIT: I've been trying to experiment with the Classic Get/Set Functions but they don't allow desktop cloning. Also, sometimes when I load profiles with a hot-key the wrong resolutions are chosen. Refresh rate seems OK, but everything else is worse than before. :(

The 4K @ 30 Hz thing would most likely be due to the HDMI cable. I believe that 4K @ 60 Hz requires HDMI 2.0, and the video card also has to support 4K @ 60 Hz, regardless of the cable version. Most likely, you'll need to use a DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable to get 4K @ 60 Hz (that's what I had to do here).

Regarding DisplayFusion not being able to set it to 1080p @ 60 Hz, that's definitely weird. I'll test that out here with my 4K on an HDMI cable :)

Update: I've tried 2 new HDMI cables from Amazon, and both had the 30 Hz issue. However I also contacted Cable Matters, the company that makes the DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. They told me this in an email:

>> Since your order was placed back in March, you could have unfortunately received the older version adapter that was only able to reach 30Hz. However, that adapter is still covered under our Cable Matters one year warranty replacement service so we can definitely replace that with the new 60Hz version for you.

Then they offered to replace it for free. So that's cool, and I'm waiting on that.

For DisplayFusion, **my guess** is that it's auto-detecting and grabbing the highest Hz rate at the maximum resolution (4k) rather than the highest Hz rate for the chosen resolution (1080p).

I can verify this is happening with my primary monitor too. Its max resolution is 1920x1200 @ 60 Hz, but for some reason it's also capable of 1280x1024 @ 75 Hz. I can set 75 Hz using Windows advanced display settings but if I try to set it to 75 in DisplayFusion, it drops down to 60 Hz immediately.

If you need me to post logs or anything, just tell me what to do and I'll gladly help! Also, THANKS for replying! I love this product.

Interesting! I will put that on our list to review, because that definitely sounds like what could be happening there, thanks for the extra info!

If we need any other info at all, we'll be sure to let you know. Otherwise, we'll just follow-up when we've had a chance to look into the code further :)

Thanks again!

Update: I received a new adapter from Cable Matters, which now allows me to reach 4k @ 60 Hz. The DisplayFusion bug has disappeared. Thanks again.

from my experience having 4 tvs/monitors all comnected to a notebook, when settings under "make text and other items larger or smaller" is above 100%, 29, 30hertz is only options. reverting to 100% will allow up to 60 on the main 55" 4k tv, with OEM graphics controller
