Hello,

My setup:
Desktop Tower connected to 3 displays:
Display 1: 19 inch LCD via VGA (Primary Screen)
Display 2: 34 inch Curved LCD via Display Port
Display 3: 42 inch TV via HDMI

Whenever I close an email or browser or document on a particular screen, when I re-open it again it opens up on that same screen. Is there is setting to make any item open on the primary screen (19 inch) always. Meaning if I close an email on the TV display and then re-open that same email, is it possible to have it open on the primary screen.

Thank you

You can definitely do this! On the Settings > Triggers tab, you can add a new rule like the attached screenshot, which will force all new windows to move to monitor 1 when they open.

Hope that helps!

Hey Keith,

Thank you for your assistance with this, however it doesn't work for Outlook items. My apologies I should have been more clear about this. When I close an Outlook email on the TV screen and then open another Outlook email it opens up on that same screen and not screen 1. I often have meetings in my office with other people and I've opened sensitive emails during the meeting which would open on the TV screen and everyone could see it. This is really why I'm doing this.

I've tried selecting the Outlook app instead of All Applications (*.*) and that didn't work either.

I am also attaching a couple of images of the current trigger settings for your records in case I am doing something wrong.

Thank you

Ah, Outlook is a bit difficult, because they re-use window handles when closing/opening emails, so there isn't actually a new window created when opening the second email. If you add a second Trigger rule to use "Window Focused," and specify Outlook in the Process Filename box, that should do the trick :)

Hey Keith,

So I tried adding a second Windows Focused Trigger and it's still doing the same thing. I'm attaching images for your records.

Thanks again.

That rule looks like it should work. When you open an Outlook email, if you click on a different window, then click back onto the email window, does it then move to monitor 2?

No the email stays on the screen it was open even after clicking on other windows. However I do notice that the Outlook app now just moves back to screen 2 after clicking it.

Thank you

Ok, could you send me a backup of your settings (Settings > Options > Export), as well as a copy of your troubleshooting info?

  • Open the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Click the "Export Info to File" button
  • Reply with the file attached

Thanks!

Thanks! I'll do some testing with this next week and see what I can find out.

Ok, I've tested with your monitor layout and DisplayFusion Settings. I was able to get the Outlook messages to move by creating a Trigger rule like the attached screenshot. Could you try that out?
