Hi all.

I have 3x1920x1080 screens with a nVidia GTX 1080 on a Win7 x64 installation.
Some time ago, I tried DF v8.1 with a GTX 980 on the same rig and all worked perfectly. I then bought this GTX 1080, updated to the latest driver version, bought DF and installed the latest 8.12 version. I've been prompted to disable the nVidia services, and confirmed.

At first, DF didn't work at all. It installed but when launched, nothing happened while it was actually running, and trying to configure it just showed me the logo with the loading bar but when it disappeared, no parameters window. Same thing for the monitor config window.
I uninstalled/reinstalled DF, same result. I restarted Windows in safe mode, and then I was able to access DF parameters but I couldn't set the surround settings of course.

When I restarted Windows normally, I had a 5760x1080 display splitted in 3 screens with each having a taskbar like I wanted, so DF works all right but I still can't access the parameters or monitor config in Windows normal mode. The problem is that I would like DF to use a 5900x1080 bezel corrected resolution but without access to the monitor config window it can't.

Does anyone have an idea about what can be the cause of my problem please? Thanks in advance for your help, and sorry for my english.

Using the desktop shortcut only launches it in the background, but you should be able to access the settings in one of the following ways:
  • Right-click the DisplayFusion tray icon, choose Settings
  • Right-click the desktop, navigate to DisplayFusion > Settings
  • Navigate to Start > All Programs > DisplayFusion > DisplayFusion Settings

Please let me know if you still run into any trouble at all.

Thanks!

Thanks for the quick answer, however I already tried all those solutions and that's why I posted here. I'm an experienced Windows user for many years, so I tried diverse manipulations, even having a look at the registry entries, before asking for help. I suppose it could be some kind of problem between the nVidia driver and DF as I can access DF parameters in safe mode, but I must say I'm a bit short on ideas here.
What I tried so far without success:
- latest driver + latest DF
- older driver + latest DF
- older driver + older DF

Oh! I think I know what it might be. Do you have an application called "Dell Backup and Recovery" installed on your machine? If so, that's likely what's causing this to happen. If you don't use it, there are a couple of things you can do to resolve this:
  • Uninstall Dell Backup and Recovery, or,
  • Rename the C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell Backup and Recovery\components\Shell\System.Data.SQLite.dll file to System.Data.SQLite.old

Hope that helps!

Alas no, it's not a Dell computer. I assembled this computer years ago, but it's a pretty good one so I have no hardware problem with it. About software, I have Eset Smartsecurity as antivirus/firewall, Acronis True Image Home 2016 for backup. I also have many little software for many things but nothing new, they were already there before I had any problem with DF.
From what I see in your answer, I'll try to remove Acronis and see if it does anything.

I uninstalled Acronis but it didn't change a thing for DF...

For the moment I've set it to auto-config for Surround and my screen setup is 5760x1080 (3x 1920x1080) with 0 bezel. It works well as is apart for some games I usually play in borderless fullscreen windowed mode.
As soon as I switch to 5900x1080, some DF features go off like multi taskbars and screen splitting, so I suppose that bezel correction is not supported by DF auto-configuration.
I would like a left and right bezel of 70px.
That's: 1920 + 70 + 1920 + 70 + 1920 = 5900 (just to be clear)

While waiting to find a solution for making DF parameters accessible, could you please tell me how I could manually change the DF config, say through regedit, to make it work with a 5900x1080 bezel corrected screen?

PS: I checked my system for services/programs using any *sqlite*.dll, and none of them seemed to be launched at Windows start or stay in background as service.

There is a way to setup the splits for bezel correction, but you need to do it through the Monitor Configuration window when the Surround setup is enabled :(

Could you enable debug logging in Safe Mode, and then send me the log from normal mode? Here are the steps:
  • In Safe Mode, open the DisplayFusion Settings > Troubleshooting tab, change the Logging drop-down to "L2: Log Detailed", and apply the settings
  • Restart into normal mode
  • Try to open the Settings window or Monitor Config window and note the time so we'll know where to check in the log file
  • Send us the DisplayFusion.log and DebugInfo.html files (can be found by clicking the Open Log button on the Troubleshooting tab)
  • Disable debug logging after sending the log

Thanks!

Here you are. I tried to open the parameters window at 15:25 then the monitor config window at 15:26 today. Hope you'll find some magic info in there :|

This will probably sound weird, but if you disable the Windows Firewall, then try to open the DisplayFusion Settings or Monitor Config, does it open?

If you navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\DisplayFusion, right-click DisplayFusionSettings.exe and choose Properties, are any options enabled on the Compatibility tab for the DisplayFusionSettings.exe properties?

None, but I tried the admin option just for the sake of it (I'm already on an admin account with UAC disabled) and it changed nothing.

Ok, since it works in safe mode, but not normal mode, there must be another program contributing to the issue. Would you be able to try disabling everything from startup, then test the DisplayFusion Settings in normal mode? If they work, can you try re-enabling a few startup items at a time to narrow down which one is causing the DF Settings window to not open?

I was about to write that I already did this operation, then... I did it again, and I've found the culprit: ESET Smart Security 9, my internet security software.

It's a good soft that I use for years, and it was installed and working well before I tested DF for the first time. Nonetheless,I already tried to disable all its functions (firewall, virus/malware protection, etc.) to see if it was causing incompatibilities, but as it changed nothing I supposed it was something else.

This time, once again, I disabled all services and programs from Windows launch, and still couldn't start DF parameters. The only program still active was ESET, with all functions off. So I uninstalled it and... DF parameters do appear now.

In the software world you can trust no one, not even old pals it seems...

I'll have to dig into ESET config to understand where's the problem with DF, but at last this thread can be closed. Thanks a lot for your help!

After some tests, I can say that it's the HIPS (Host Intrusion Prevention System) that causes incompatibility. I tried to enter exceptions for all DF programs with no success. So far, DF parameters can only be accessed with ESET's HIPS entirely disabled.

Strange! I've just tried ESET here and don't have any issues opening the DisplayFusion Settings. What do you have the "Filtering Mode" set to for the ESET HIPS feature?

Strange indeed. I already had ESET when I tried DF 8 and had no problem at all. I just updated to ESET 10, to see if it would change anything, but got the same result.
I tested all HIPS filtering modes and none allowed me to make DF parameters or monitor window to open. When HIPS is off, no problem at all.

Mystery solved: ESET kept somehow a bunch of application rules for the HIPS, and when deleted and HIPS on "auto" mode, all works as intended.
Thanks again for your help and your patience :)
