I've recently been trying different virtual desktop programs as I do not like the native Windows 10 version (very limited). I believe I have finally found one that works the way I want (at least until something happens and it stops working the way I want).

However, it made me wonder if it was possible to have a desktop profile for each virtual desktop. I technically only have two - a personal one, where I browse, watch TV, game, etc and a work one, where I obviously do work. Now,ideally, I would really like the ability to have taskbar icons and programs related to each virtual desktop -

For example, on the work virtual, I'd really have to have say Chrome, Filezilla, and Skype on my taskbar, but on personal, I'd want say chrome, firefox, and one note. Something along those lines. Would I be able to do that using desktop profiles?

I already have a desktop profile to ensure my programs stayed on their relative monitors when they went to sleep (still have an issue with that), but would I be able to assign a profile to say my work virtual and then keep the one I have for personal?

That isn't really possible, no. We do have an open feature request for taskbar profiles though, so I will add your vote to the feature request list.

Unfortunately you'd need to manually load your Wallpaper and Desktop Icon profiles though, as we don't really have a way to tell when another app switches virtual desktops.

Keith! How are you? You probably don't remember my constant pestering when I first started using this, but obviously all your help worked!

Aw, I'm sorry to hear about it. It's not a super big deal cause obviously I've been fine with it until now and the ability to pin programs to each taskbar was better than Windows 10's offering. I was just wondering, though absolutely add me to the separate taskbar icon profile thing.

So I have a question/issue/possible workaround?

For the work virtual desktop, could I create a new desktop profile for just the work virtual desktop and just that on the WVD and then switch back to the previous profile? I think that was probably essentially my previous question, but I don't think I considered switching between profiles.

A new issue I'm having that I can't figure out is something either with Windows or not. Up until today, I've been able to have two separate instances of shared programs across virtual desktops. So for instance - I'll have Chrome open on my personal virtual desktop with it's own tabs and then on the work virtual desktop, I have another instance of Chrome open with IT'S own tabs open. Neither the two should meet.

Today, however, I've had to replace Firefox with something else and I noticed that it's not doing what my other programs do - have separate instances. I'm sure it has to be a setting that I did in DF, but I don't remember what.

EDIT - I'm actually realizing this might be due to the profile I have in place? I created it well before I switched browsers, so maybe that's it?

For the desktop icons, you could save separate Desktop Icon Profiles and load them as needed, but you'd have to load them manually each time you switch virtual desktops, there isn't a way to automate it unfortunately. Also note that the Desktop Icon Profiles only save the icon positions, and not the icons themselves, so if you delete an icon, it won't be restored by loading a Desktop Icon Profile.

Regarding the question about Firefox profiles, I'm not quite sure what you mean. Could you provide some more details?
