I love Display Fusion and especially the smart ALT+TAB
1) window chooser showing only on screen where cursor is + only showing windows laying on that desktop - BRILLIANT
2) hide Desktop from the selection - BRILLIANT (that's what WIN+D is for)

But is there any chance to make the thumbnails much bigger ? like 2-3x bigger ?

ATTACHED 2 SCREENSHOTS

For long time ive been using AltTabTuner (now Winaero Tweaker) - this utility can give you super big thumbnail previews when using ALT+TAB - unfortunately it doesn't work when DisplayFusion is on (I guess its one or the other), also it lacks the above 2 smart features of DisplayFusion...

Is there any chance to enlarge ALT+TAB thumbnails inside DisplayFusion and get the best OF BOTH WORLDS (AltTabTuner + DisplayFusion) ?

I've added this to our feature request list and we'll be sure to let you know if/when we're able to implement it in a future version :)

Thanks!

Tip: If you're on Windows 10, try Win+Tab instead. These screens are much bigger. :)

YYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS ! ! !

Thanks DS1508, that solved a problem I had not yet took in account.

But, but, but ... I cannot use it because...
.... I have been inhibited my physical W-buttons, to avoid finger's mistakes.
(sharpKeys - randyrants.com)

>>> How to use that fantastic idea then ??
So my 2 cents:

I keep an handy resized on-screen-kb version and use it with mouse. (OSK.EXE - W10)
(WindowsBorderlessGaming)

and being osk.exe on top, and no settings - to avoid it to cover my vert.TaskBar's START button...
... go to taskbar click twice on it, it disappear
- twice again it re-appear.

See attached pic.

WIN+TAB (to get this: https://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/image28.png)

Thats not bad but has 2 MAJOR issues

1) this is Windows internal feature so it shows ALL WINDOWS FROM ALL MONITORS, which totally bypasses the unique feature of DisplayFusion to "Show on Current Monitor Only, Show Current Windows Only"

2) i have 3 monitors [ FULL HD ] / [ FULL HD ] / [ laptop ] and i have the laptop as primary (due to various reasons also related to DisplayFusion handling of Multi-Monitor Taskbar) so the WIN+TAB shows on the small laptop.... not ideal

Some food for thought if you decide to implement "BIGGER THUMBNAILS" in DisplayFusion enhanced ALT+TAB

1) posting a screenshot of the AltTabTuner for inspiration
- the most important is obviously the "ThumbsSize" parameter
- the rows and columns is optional but i would prefer it to be AS BIG AS POSSIBLE so you can actually easily read the content of each window - for example if you have 3 excel files opened and 3 browser windows - to be able to see which is which even when they differ just slightly (showing versions of one excel table or similar pages) - nice crisp previews

2) maybe an OPTION to alter the default behaviour - the default in DisplayFusion is that when you press&hold ALT+TAB 3 things happen
a) window chooser shows
b) the last active window is immeditaelly highlighted / focused
c) after 1 second delay the chooser starts to switch to PREVIEW selected window

the OPTION would be when you press&hold ALT+TAB the window chooser would popup but the focus would STAY ON THE CURRENT WINDOW and it would not start to preview any windows after 1 second - it would show chooser and stay put while you hold ALT+TAB

- now while still holding the ALT+TAB you would have couple options:
1) mouse click on window preview to switch (same as now)
2) middle click on preview to close window (excelent for quick cleanup of unused, forgotten, minimised windows after a job is done)
3) while STILL HOLDING ALT, pressing TAB repeatedly cycles through previews, releasing all keys switches to the selected window

these are just things to consider... thanks

I think your ideas are good.
Alt+Tab would be better.

Strange what you say about ... W+Tab
what happens to me is that in each monitor related windows are shown but not the other.
As per attached pictures... main and secondary.

Wow how did you get that ? Is it Windows 10 ?
- i like that it shows nice flat 2-dimensional previews
- i love that it shows only windows laying on each screen

Iam on Windows 7 and my WIN+TAB looks like the screenshot i made:

I googled around and indeed the WINDOWS 10 native ALT+TAB / WIN+TAB is pretty much the thing i would want DisplayFusion to look like :D

Here: https://www.davidolliver.com/windows-10-basics-multidesktop-multitasking/
And Here: http://techvolts.com/how-to-fix-windows-10-alttab-lag-issue-in-april-update/

Guys it seems like BIG THUMBNAILS are de-facto standard now :D Please implement this in DisplayFusion - the Windows 10 implementation "looks" pretty much spot on :)

Unfortunatelly many Enteprise companies still use Win7 (been working on 2 helpdesks and both use Win 7)

Sorry to trow your illusions down the sink...
...this is what W10 Alt+Tab give you.

Snip on 2/3 of my screen :-))

What I posted previously is W+Tab using DF parameters

now iam bit confused....

i dont have Windows 10 so i have to rely on google images, according to the articles (search term "Windows 10 alt+tab" these should be all NATIVE windows window choosers (to be honest i dont really care if they are evoked by WIN+TAB or ALT+TAB, iam talking about the LOOK OF THE WINDOW :D - id love to have this in Windows 7 via DisplayFusion) - the bigger the better

Ok so i connected to a server running Windows 10, so this is MY screenshots from my Windows 10, couple minutes old

Native Windows 10 ALT+TAB
- 2 rows, pretty big thumbnails, no desktop dimming, no button to add desktops

Native Windows 10 WIN+TAB
- 2 rows, bigger thumbnails (YES), desktop dimmed, button to (+) ADD DESKTOP

also Windows 10 native ALT+TAB behaves lot like what i suggested as OPTIONAL BEHAVIOUR for DisplayFusion
1) it shows up and stays put as long as you HOLD the shortcut
2) it ONLY highlights last window BUT IT DOESNT SWITCH TO IT UNLESS YOU RELEASE THE KEYS
3) it doesnt change focus or show window previews - it stays put and wait for you
4) lets you choose windows by left-mouse click
5) middle-mouse click closes window

WOW GUYS can you JUST COPY the functionality of WINDOWS 10 NATIVE ALT+TAB (not WIN+TAB) and make the thumbnails as big as possible (maybe a customisable size in pixels like the "Thumbnail Preview Size" parameter for Multi-Monitor Taskbar)

It seems like the world moved to BIG THUMBNAILS alt+tab some time ago (including dinosaurs like Microsoft) - please guys give the Windows 10 native ALT+TAB to all Windows 7 users (there is a lot of us in enterprise IT still running win 7)

As it was suggested:
W+Tab do the job in 3 rows.

Don't rely on Internet!

It's a can full of lies and fake news... bleah!

Alain

PS: why DF should invest the scarce resource to duplicate W10, instead of implementing things missing?

now i do not have to rely on google anymore i can do my own screenshots using one of our WIN 10 SERVERS

the native Windows 10 ALT+TAB and WIN+TAB differ slightly in a way they decide to ARRANGE and LAYOUT the windows on the screen

With 4 windows opened

WIN+TAB
generates bigger thumbnails because it has LESS PADDING to screen edges
it prefers to layout windows in even X by X grid

ALT+TAB
has smaller thumbnails from beginning...
prefers to arrange windows in longer rows instead of even X by X grid...

With MANY windows opened (screenshots follow in next post)

both ALT+TAB and WIN+TAB can do 3 rows and as the number of thumbnails increase the difference in thumbnail size become less significant between the 2 modes

I STILL PREFER BIGGER THUMBNAILS AND LESS PADDING TO SCREEN EDGES - so the "look" of WIN+TAB is better for me

However i like the operation of Windows 10 ALT+TAB more

1) ALT+TAB goes away when you RELEASE KEYS, while WIN+TAB stays engaged when you release keys - that adds unnecessary EXTRA step to hide/disengage WIN+TAB

2) ALT+TAB does not switch or refocus to last window (unlike DP which refocuses and than starts to show previews after 1 sec), Windows 10 ALT+TAB only highlights last window without refocus and ONLY AFTER YOU RELEASE KEYS it switches to last window - Windows 10 WIN+TAB does not even highlight last window, it completely lacks the function to switch back and forth between last active windows

IF DP WOULD JUST COPY WINDOWS 10 ALT+TAB FUNCTIONALITY AND MAKE THUMBNAILS BIGGEST POSSIBLE (with minimum screen edge padding) IT WOULD BE HOLY GRAIL

Because 43% of Windows users are missing this function :D

"Windows users "
First reason---------------
You gave yourself the answer.. why not to. Users seldom become customers!
No money to spend on a Company machine, you dont own.
(when installing software is not forbidden)

Majority of Customers nowadays have a W10, we are not speaking of machines, just about people.

Second reason-----------------
if some customers still have a W7 machine, do you think they have money for DF?

Hi Alain i dont want to argue, its very time consuming

Lets agree to disagree

You dont want the function (i guess partly because you already have it in Win10) i want the function because i miss it in Windows 7 and i was using AltTabTuner before DP to get BIG THUMBNAILS - sadly these 2 programs dont cooperate too well - and no amount of arguing will make me stop wanting the function…

i TOTALLY AGREE that every developer must decide where to spend their valuable time… thats why this is a suggestion

i believe DP has its own statistics of operating systems used with DP

Apart from https://netmarketshare.com/operating-system-market-share.aspx?id=platformsDesktopVersions
i sent i can tell you my experience thats real

I worked at IT help desk in Company A (worldwide insurance enterprise)
- 70.000 internal employees
- everyone using Windows 7 (and they still do in 2018 - dont ask me why)
- the helpdesk in company A is also using windows 7

Now i work as IT Helpdek at Company B
- 300 employees (small european union agency)
- everyone including helpdesk using Windows 7 (dont ask me why)

You are right that corporate employees do not ussualy have right to install software but think about the ARMIES of IT professional (L1, L2, L3) serving these corporate employees and the HELPDESK ussually uses the same OS as their employee base

Throughout my IT career i was very happy to spend part of my salary on courses and tools that simplify my job and i also discovered many free ones i cant live without

To name a few i bought personal licenses from my salary (for my Windows 7 helpdesk work pc)
- Insight Software Shortkeys [[29.95 USD]]
- Nurgo Software AquaSnap [[18 USD]]
- And now iam ready to buy DP if some of the problems i experience is solved (frankly the Multi-Monitor Taskbar is worth the money ALREADY but id like the taskbar Thumbnail Previews to work and ALT+TAB would be a nice bonus in the future)

This was added to the feature request list back in 2016 as well, but it appears nothing has been done about it.

https://www.displayfusion.com/Discussions/View/any-way-to-increase-the-thumbnail-size-of-the-previews-when-pressing-alt-tab/?ID=ffde7a51-e79d-4eb0-9d6c-6154b4befc1a

I came looking for this feature, and don't see it implemented. Can you at least give us an option in the Advanced settings? I need larger thumbnails even if they are blurrier.

So, I guess this was never stuck in, since the thumbnail size is a set number of pixels in the Alt-Tab config, right?

My problem is -- i have to set them to 20% smaller than default just to fit all my window previews in the alt-tab window, otherwise they don't fit on the screen, because it restricts itself to 4-5 columns (with "4" or "5" depending on if i hardcode 120x80 vs 135x90 vs 50x100) for some reason. I don't get it.

We've released a new beta with some changes that might help here, can you try it out and let me know if the issue persists?
